OldBob Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/29/2005 9:33:12 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() Setup is USR 5610B modem installed on motherboard and three hard drives. Hard Drive No. 1 = Win98SE and modem on COM5 workink "fine". Hard Drive No. 2 = Necessary to reinstall Win98SE, now modem cannot find COM5 !!! Win98SE only "looks" at COM1 & Com2. Had this same "problem" before and while trying several things, modem suddenly "jumped onto" COM5. Don't know what I did and can't duplicate it. Any tips/help getting modem onto COM5 will be appreciated !! |

OldBob Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/29/2005 7:45:46 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() Richard, Thanks for response. I have most of the drivers "burned" onto a CD that I use to reinstall modem. It is running & re-running these that caused the modem to install on COM5. This procedure depends on "dumb luck" !! I downloaded another copy of the USR 5610B driver from the site you posted. May be a "fresh copy" will make the difference, I'll keep you advised. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/29/2005 8:14:09 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You could also try putting the modem in a different PCI slot if available. Aloha! Richard. |
OldBob Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/29/2005 8:24:19 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() Saturday I even tried removing the modem completely, booting up and then re-installing [in the same slot]. No Help !!! NOTE: My home-bilt computer has a TRIOS hard drive switcher with three hard drives and four operating systems installed. Since motherboard & 5610B modem is common to all four OS's, I don't want to get "too tricky" and lose the modem operation on one of the other three OS's. On the "other" copy of Win98SE, modem is shown on COM5. |
Pi Tl Posts: 89 USA | Posted - 5/29/2005 9:35:12 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() Try uninstalling "DOS Box Support" http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5610b Click the link "COM 5 in Windows 95/98" on the left side. quote: When the OS (with modem) or modem was first installed did the system "hang" when first installed. |
